Therea olegrandjeani with her common name question-mark cockroach for their conspicuous markings, is a roach species native to India. The species was described in 2008, based on a specimen collected from the town of Gooty and the species is known from the Telangana and Andhra Pradesh regions. It is a popular roach species among roach-keepers. Therea olegrandjeani is a univoltine roach species, they usually give only one brood per year.

Size: adults may reach a length of 30 mm.
Activity: mostly night active.
Terrarium: keep ⅓ moist by spraying and/or with sphagnum moss. The substrate can be a mixture of peat (without fertilizer) mixed with crushed decaying leaves, some coconut coir and a little sand and the roaches will be happy. Make it at least 5 cm deep so that the nymphs can bury in it when they need to. They also need some hiding spots to go under and hide themselves during the day. These can be carton egg cases, cork bark, or hard bark from other trees.
Temperature: 24°C and above; especially important for the oothecae.
Humidity: 50% – 70% especially important for the oothecae. But they can tolerate dryness pretty well
Diet: decaying leaves, soft fruit (they like banana and apple), and don’t forget the weekly insect jelly caps.
Life cycle & Breeding: Adult Therea olegrandjeani roaches lay lots of oothecae and then die off shortly after, beginning the cycle over again with nymphs. Generally their appearance and life cycle resembles beetles, with the adults dying shortly after they have bred. The nymphs (juvenile roaches) spend their time buried in the substrate, and they reach adulthood within two years; however, when kept in captivity in the Philippines, they can reach adulthood within nine months with frequent feeding of protein-rich food, fruits, and vegetables. Question mark roaches tend to mature male-heavy and so larger starter colonies are recommended unless there is no intention of breeding.
Can climb?: yes, mainly males, females are heavier. Nymphs can’t climb.
