FYI: All invertebrates are packed with leaves, moss and food, so even if you choose a longer transit (except during winter*), there shouldn’t be any issue. Especially for roaches slow shipping works fine.

Notes: Parcels via DPD are handed to PostNord, which is the the Swedish/Danish national postal service and DPD’s official partner in the Nordics. The reliability via DPD is high. PostNord has an infamous reputation in Denmark for home deliveries—drivers are notoriously rushed and the “fake delivery attempt” is a national meme. However, because their network is so vast, a missed delivery just means the parcel is taken to the recipient’s local Pakkeshops (pick-up point) or a PostNord parcel locker and the recipient receives an SMS.

Notes: DHL Standard (Delivered by DHL Freight, Bring, or PostNord): * Reliability: Very High. Standard DHL shipments are fully integrated into the Danish Pakkeshop culture. Notes: Parcels via DHL are handed to ELTA in Greece. ELTA is generally safe; packages rarely vanish. However, they are notoriously slow. Instead, they will simply drop a paper slip in the recipient’s mailbox saying, “You have a package.” At the moment of writing, it’s not a carrier we would trust to ship animals.

Notes: UPS has their own network in Sweden and the reliability is medium. UPS is highly professional, but their model clashes with Swedish delivery culture. UPS generally attempts delivery during standard working hours (9 AM to 5 PM) when most Swedes are at the office. They require a signature and are very strict about it. If the recipient misses the delivery, the package is routed to a “UPS Access Point.” While PostNord and DHL have shops in almost every single neighborhood supermarket, UPS Access Points are far less common. A missed delivery could mean your recipient has to take a 20-minute drive or bus ride across town to fetch their box. Yet, from a personal experience, UPS parcels to Sweden go smoothly.

Notes: Parcels via DPD are handed to PostNord, which is the the Swedish/Danish national postal service and DPD’s official partner in the Nordics. The reliability via DPD is high. PostNord has an infamous reputation in Sweden for home deliveries—drivers are notoriously rushed and the “fake delivery attempt” is a national meme. However, because their network is so vast, a missed delivery just means the parcel is taken to the recipient’s local PostNord Ombud (usually the supermarket down the street) or a PostNord parcel locker and the recipient receives an SMS.

FAQ

Choosing carrier

Question: Can I choose with which carrier I would like my parcel to arrive?
Answer: Yes of course, as long as there are not extra requirements. For example, for tropical and/or sensitive invertebrates during winter and/or extreme heat, then we only ship those invertebrates express.
Question: Are all carriers the same for international shipping?
Answer: Well, not. In order from best to less reliable are: UPS, DHL, DPD. Less reliable doesn’t mean that it’s a bad service, but I have experienced delays. Though, in some countries (for example Belgium, Czech Republic, Poland) parcels via DPD 98% are arriving the next day. In some other countries (Czech Republic & Hungary for example) DHL has a bad reputation. We didn’t include PostNL because most of the times international orders with invertebrates are sent via all other three carriers. Except for roaches, for which slow shipping (PostNL) usually goes smoothly.

Do all options of frost-protection offer protection in extremely low temperatures?

Not quite. If you live in a Northern country with very low temperatures (like Finland), please select our Ultimate Frost Protection. It’s the only option that guarantees frost protection down to -20°C. For delivery to the rest of the EU during winter, our standard frost protection works perfectly!

Do invertebrate transport boxes need to have holes?

The answer – surprisingly – is not! I have learned that from old experienced breeders of invertebrates. Despite that, all of my boxes for transferring invertebrates do have a couple of small holes on the lid, according to the moisture needs of the species. Invertebrates are not mammals and for them desiccation (dehydration) kills thousands of times faster than suffocation. Either way those transportation boxes are not 100% sealed, so some air exchange is still happening.

Do you ship to the UK/USA/Liechtenstein/Northern Ireland/Norway/Switzerland/Asia?

Not shipping to the UK anymore. Sorry. Paperwork for a simple parcel is too much hassle for me. So, only within the EU is shipping possible.

I Live in the UK. Is there an option to send the arthropods to friends in Ireland?

That is possible, if you trust them. Though, prior placing an order for invertebrates to be shipped to a third person, you have to agreed with the following terms & conditions:
EXUVIUM isopods is not responsible for loss of parcel, and/or loss of the contents of the parcel, when a third-party is involved, because we can’t control that. You will receive confirmation of the contents of the parcel after it has been dispatched.

Free shipping?

Question: Can you clarify please what it means “When shipping doesn’t exceed €40,00”?
Answer: Yes, from August 2026 now free shipping starts from €80,00 (within the Netherlands); from €100,00 (for Belgium and Poland); from €150,00 to most other countries in Central and North Europe and from €250,00 to other countries in the EU. And all of them are eligible for free shipping when that doesn’t exceed €40,00. For example, you add substrate and/or isopodarium? Then shipping will be higher. If – for example – shipping is €50,00, then you only pay €10,00 for shipping. With free shipping our triple frost protection and/or heat protection is also always free of charge 😎
Question: Can I choose with which carrier I would like my parcel to arrive?
Answer: Yes of course, as long as their shipping method you choose (say UPS express) is within the range of free shipping for your country.

Tracked? Is shipping tracked?

Of course! 99.8% of parcels are with a tracking code. Rarely we will ship something without tracking but only if it’s something of low value (say below €10,00). And again only after agreement with the buyer.

When to order?

Question: When is the best day to order?
Answer: Since international orders are shipped Monday to Wednesday, the best day to order is exactly one week before. Or the day after that. In that way you make sure that your order will shipped on Monday. When paying for UPS Express, most of the times the parcel arrives the next day, and in that case we are for sure more flexible with shipping. Keep in mind that on Sundays we are recharging, so this day we usually don’t check for new orders. And if it is busy your order might be shipped the next week.
