Porcellio pseudornatus ‘Tangerine Dream’ with their huge size, extremely shiny and elongated body, their orange color and the yellow dots on the back are very interesting isopods. They are curious, bold, extremely active and friendly is an isopod you are gonna love also for their vibrant personality. The young isopods have that soft orange (as seen in the last pictures down below) and the yellow dots are not yet visible.

Porcellio pseudornatus ‘Tangerine Dream’ care
Size: adults may reach a total length of 25 mm. They have a disproportionately long body.
Activity: day; night; early morning.
Terrarium: keep only ⅕ moist with moss, pieces of rotting white wood covering with decaying leaves. Porcellio pseudornatus ‘Tangerine Dream’ isopods require a much drier setup, good air flow and adequate ventilation.
Temperature: 18 – 28°C
Humidity: 45 – 55%; they can’t tolerate high humidity.
Diet: fruits, veggies, greens, fish-food, decaying leaves, rotting white wood, mushrooms, molting of invertebrates and reptiles. This large and secretive isopod requires protein as well, at least 2x each week. For alternative sources of protein be sure to check out our Protein mix foods. Also don’t forget a calcium source (cuttlefish bone, limestone & oyster seashell, limestone rock) to keep them healthy.
Difficulty: challenging.
Reproduction rate: prolific in an established colony; medium to large litters of mancae. Maturity comes after 3 months. Seasonal breeders.
Growth rate: fast.
⚠️ Not Porcellio ornatus
These isopods are sold as Porcellio ornatus ‘Tangerine Dream’, but:
a) They are far larger and with a longer body than the Porcellio ornatus isopods
b) They have the same six dots on the last part of their body as the Porcellio pseudornatus (P. ornatus lack those).
c) They have a bold personality and a vibrant, different behavior than P. ornatus isopods.
Porcellio pseudornatus were previously known as Porcellio sp. ‘Malaga Monster’, for their huge size. Porcellio pseudornatus ‘Tangerine Dream’ were isolated from Porcellio pseudornatus ‘Orange’ (you can google those as Porcellio sp. ‘Malaga Monster Orange’).
