Porcellio succinctus ‘Pastel’ is another spanish giant. It may not be the largest, like the Porcellio hoffmannseggii and Porcellio magnificus, but their extremely long antennae and uropods, make the Porcellio succinctus ‘Pastel’ a large and impressive isopod. I have photo of a collector with a specimen exceeding 50 mm. That’s impressive, and to me the longest known terrestrial isopod to this day.
Porcellio succinctus do not forgive mistakes, they need only one corner to remain moist in their isopodarium; they are secretive and they will suffer – and eventually die – from too much heat in the Summer.
The unique characteristic of this isopod are the extremely long antennae and uropods. The ‘Pastel’ is a strain developed for its brown soft pastel color.
