Cubaris sp. ‘Daxin Tricolor’ is a striking, highly sought-after terrestrial isopod originating from the limestone karst and cave environments of Daxin County in Guangxi, southern China. True to its name, this species showcases a vivid three-tone pattern, combining rich peach-orange, dark charcoal bands, and crisp white-to-cream accents that intensify as they mature into adults.
Featuring the classic compact, domed body plan of the Cubaris genus, they readily conglobate into a neat, protective sphere when disturbed. While naturally shy and semi-fossorial during the day, they make rewarding display inhabitants as they emerge after dark to forage among leaf litter, limestone rock, and rotting hardwood. A standout gem for enthusiasts of Asian karst species, ‘Daxin Tricolor’ brings exceptional contrast and charm to any dedicated naturalistic vivarium or boutique isopod collection.

Size: adults may reach a length of 10 – 15 mm.
Activity: primarily nocturnal and reclusive, spending much of their time buried in the substrate or tucked tightly beneath bark; they become active surface grazers late in the evening.
Terrarium: maintain a distinct moisture gradient with roughly ⅓ to ½ kept moist with damp sphagnum or forest moss, paired with pieces of tree bark or cork bark and also generous layers of decaying leaves. Substrate depth: 5 – 8 cm (deep enough to allow natural burrowing and maintain moisture).
Temperature: 21 – 26°C
Humidity: 70 – 85%.
Diet: decaying leaves, white rotten wood, forest moss, lichen, veggies, fish-food, gammarus shrimp, mushrooms. They will enjoy a slightly higher protein-based diet, at least 2x times a week.
