Origin: Thailand.
Scientific name: Cubaris sp.
Trade name: Rubber Ducky
Basionym: N/A
Synonyms: N/A
Family: Armadillidae
Common name: N/A
Isopoda World List: genus Cubaris
Cubaris sp. ”Rubber Ducky’ lives in the tropical regions of Thailand, inside caves. Therefore, a relative humidity of 70 – 80% should be maintained, with a dry part in the isopodarium as well. Despite the high humidity, good ventilation is also critical for this species to thrive in captivity. Cubaris sp. ‘Rubber Ducky’ is a shy and secretive isopod that is prone to conglobate and often remains in that “ball state” for quite a while. As a shy and secretive species that comes from caves, Cubaris sp. ‘Rubber Ducky’ do better if they are not disturbed a lot. And then, if they are happy, one time you might see babies. But to be happy certain conditions must be kept, like the pH in their enclosure, as they are sensitive to high acidity. Use Catappa leaves that lower the pH, and also replace the substrate when you see that 1/3 of it has become frass. Frass can raise the acidity extremely fast!
