Isopoda World List

Trachelipus caucasius is one of the very few isopod species in this genus that has some color; their orange skirt. The almost black with the orange gives them a beautiful color contrast. It’s an easy isopod species to keep and breed, plus they don’t require high temperatures.

Size: adults may reach a length of 24 mm.
Activity: day; early morning; nighttime.
Terrarium: I keep them a little drier than Armadillidium isopods. Thus ⅓ moist with moss, pieces of rotting white wood and also decaying leaves. Check out also our premium substrate.
Temperature: 10 – 26°C
Humidity: 50 – 60%; they are drought tolerant.
Diet: fruits, veggies, greens, fish-food, decaying leaves, rotting white wood, molting of invertebrates and reptiles. And 2x times a week provide a source of protein. Be sure to check out our Protein mix foods. Also don’t forget a calcium source (cuttlefish bone, limestone & oyster seashell, limestone rock) to keep them healthy.
Difficulty: easy.
Reproduction rate: prolific.
Growth rate: normal.
