Porcellio silvestrii ‘Dalmatian’ is the dalmatian variety of the common Porcellio silvestrii isopods. The dalmatian phenotype is pretty uncommon in nature and only a few species have developed it. As with the common Porcellio silvestrii isopods, these are equally not extremely difficult to keep, if you keep them a bit drier.
Unfortunately, we still see the common Porcellio silvestrii written with one ” i “, which is incorrect.
Porcellio silvestrii ‘Orange’, isopod care
Size: adults may reach a length of 25 mm.
Activity: day; night; early morning.
Terrarium: keep only ⅕ moist with moss, pieces of tree bark or cork bark and also decaying leaves. Porcellio silvestrii ‘Dalmatian’ isopods require a much drier setup, good air flow and adequate ventilation. It’s a social Porcellio species that when established, breeds well. Humidity: 50 – 60%
Diet: fruits, veggies, greens, fish-food, forest moss, lichen, gammarus shrimp, decaying leaves, white rotten wood, mushrooms, molting of invertebrates and reptiles. And 2x times a week provide a source of protein. Be sure to check out our Protein mix foods. Also don’t forget a calcium source (calcium triple boost, cuttlefish bone, limestone & oyster seashell, limestone rock) to keep them healthy.
Difficulty: moderate.
Reproduction rate: moderately prolific.
Growth rate: normal to fast.
Lifespan: 2 to 2,5 years. Sexual maturity is reached after 4 to 6 months.
