Porcellio scaber ‘Red Calico’ is the red color expression of the calico scaber morph. Only the females are expressing the calico phenotype, the males are black. This is one of the most impressive Porcellio scaber morph, with a deep crimson red color that develops fully on adult females.

Porcellio scaber ‘Red Calico’, isopod care
Size: adults may reach a length of 18 mm.
Activity: day; night; early morning.
Terrarium: keep ⅓ moist with moss, pieces of tree bark or cork bark and also decaying leaves. They require good air flow and adequate ventilation. It’s a social Porcellio species that when established, breeds well year-round. Check out also our premium substrate and ultra premium substrate.
Temperature: 17 – 28°C
Humidity: 50 – 60%
Diet: fruits, veggies, greens, fish-food, moss, decaying leaves, white rotten wood, lichen, mushrooms, molting of invertebrates and reptiles. And 2x times a week provide a source of protein. Be sure to check out our Protein mix foods. They prefer less fresh leaves. Also don’t forget a calcium source (calcium triple boost, cuttlefish bone, limestone & oyster seashell, limestone rock) to keep them healthy.

FAQ
Do you know why I got some male calico scabers? (another morph not this one)
In the natural calico phenotype the males are only black and the females have the colors. But the cross-breedings in captivity can produce calico-looking isopods of both sexes. I believe these should be better called dalmatian.
