Common name: Rough isopod (that is for the common Porcellio scaber).
Porcellio scaber ‘Moonstone’ is a strain developed in Slovenia. The original culture comes from central Slovenia. The strain ‘Moonstone’ differs from ‘Dalmatian’ in that they are more translucent, they are whitter, they are not speckled, the black / gray color is reduced to random patches and the overlapping color on the back – when they are not totally white – is less beige, and more gray.
There are also the Porcellio scaber ‘Moo Cow’, (with its synonyms Porcellio scaber ‘Tunisian Pied’, Porcellio scaber ‘Oreo’) that look extremely similar to the Porcellio scaber ‘Moonstone’ but they differ genetically from the ‘Moonstone’ scabers. Only phenotypically they look similar.

Size: adults may reach a length of 18 mm.
Activity: day; night; early morning
Terrarium: keep ⅓ moist with moss, pieces of rotting white wood and also decaying leaves. Check out also our premium substrate.
Temperature: 17 – 26°C
Humidity: 50 – 60%
Diet: fruits, veggies, greens, fish-food, decaying leaves, white rotting wood, forest moss, lichen, molting of invertebrates and reptiles. They require a slightly higher protein-based diet, at least 3x times a week provide a source of protein. Be sure to check out our Protein mix foods. Also don’t forget a calcium source (cuttlefish bone, limestone & oyster seashell, limestone rock) to keep them healthy.
