This beautiful, somewhat broad and flat isopod species comes from Spain. Porcellio bolivari is endemic to southeastern Spain, where they live inside caves. It’s yet another Spanish giant, measuring up to 30mm in length, and like other giant spanish isopods, Porcellio bolivari also likes it a lot drier. Porcellio bolivari bolivari is an unaccepted taxon name, referring to this species; Porcellio bolivari nicklesi is an older synonym.

Size: adults may reach a length of 30 mm.
Activity: early morning; nighttime.
Terrarium: keep only one corner moist with moss and pieces of rotting white wood, covered with decaying leaves. Porcellio bolivari isopods require a much drier setup, good air flow and adequate ventilation. Check out also our premium substrate.
Temperature: 18 – 26°C
Humidity: 45 – 55%; they can’t tolerate high humidity.
Diet: fruits, veggies, greens, fish-food, decaying leaves. Rotting white wood should be plenty, molting of invertebrates and reptiles. They will enjoy a slightly higher protein-based diet, at least 2x times a week. Be sure to check out our Protein mix foods. Difficulty: moderate.
Reproduction rate: prolific in an established colony; medium to large litters of mancae. Maturity comes after 6 months.
