Armadillidium flavoscutatum ‘Redhead’ was recently discovered (Summer of 2023) in Albania. Their distinct characteristic is their red-orange head which comes in high contrast to their dark brown body. Which also lacks any dots / markings, like the common Armadillidium flavoscutatum isopod. Their shiny appearance adds even more to their unique beauty. Armadillidium flavoscutatum ‘Redhead’ is an easy to keep and breed isopod, suitable for beginners.
Currently offering for sale isopods from my breeding group that produced dalmatians and ghosts! So perhaps they appear in the offspring from your isopods as well! 😀
Armadillidium flavoscutatum ‘Redhead’, isopod care
Size: adults may reach a length of 10 – 12 mm.
Activity: day; night; early morning.
Terrarium: keep ⅓ moist with moss, pieces of tree bark or cork bark and also decaying leaves. Check out also our premium substrate and ultra premium substrate.
Temperature: 17 – 26°C
Humidity: 60 – 75%
Diet: fruits, veggies, greens, fish-food, forest moss, lichen, gammarus shrimp, decaying leaves, white rotten wood, molting of invertebrates and reptiles. They will enjoy a slightly higher protein-based diet, at least 2x times a week. Be sure to check out our Protein mix foods. Also don’t forget a calcium source (calcium triple boost, cuttlefish bone, limestone & oyster seashell, limestone rock) to keep them healthy.

Reproduction rate: prolific with medium-size broods.
