Porcellionides pruinosus ‘Whiteout’ is the whitish variety of the Porcellionides pruinosus isopod. This is not a morph created by humans, but it’s a natural mutation that appeared in the wild. The ‘Whiteout’ term does not indicate a pure white color though. They have a slight orange hue and they are semi-transparent. Plus, their color also depends on their diet. Being translucent, what they eat appears below the skin, thus also altering their normal color, at least for a couple days. These are easy to keep and breed isopods and they are the best invertebrate pet for kids. Since they are exceptionally prolific isopods, a heavy populated colony can also serve as feeders to other invertebrates (tarantulas), amphibians and reptiles that feed on insects and small invertebrates.
