The trade name mandarin reflects exactly their appearance, they have a tangerine color, with the young isopods having a yellowish-tangerine color. They are hardy and adaptable isopods, but rather shy. With large numbers however they tend to be more active. These are prolific and easy to keep isopods. Their only downside is that they grow slowly.

Size: adults may reach a length of 12 – 16 mm.
Activity: mostly night active.

Humidity: 55 – 70%; they are adaptable.
Diet: fruits, veggies, greens, fish-food, forest moss, lichen, gammarus shrimp, decaying leaves, white rotten wood, molting of invertebrates and reptiles.
