FAQ
Is the wood untreated? Do I need to boil it?
The wood is in the rotting process and then dried out. You place it like that in the terrarium.
The term “white rotten wood” means that it comes from trees with white wood?
The term “white rotten wood” refers to the decay process caused by specific fungi rather than implying that it comes from trees classified as “white wood.” “White rot” is a type of wood decay caused by fungi, which breaks down both lignin and cellulose in the wood, resulting in a lighter, spongy texture. The wood appears white or bleached, hence the name “white rotten”, even if it comes from hardwood trees, like oak and beech. While both beech and oak are hardwoods, when they undergo white rot, they can become suitable substrates for these organisms. Wood that has undergone white rot is often favored by detritivores because it is softer and easier to digest. The fungi that cause white rot make nutrients more accessible.
