Pseudorhipsalis amazonica is a rare epiphytic jungle cactus from the tropical areas of Central and South America. It is still sometimes searched after its older synonym: Wittia amazonica. During summertime and when exposed to sufficient sunlight the stems of this jungle cactus get a brown/red color. Pseudorhipsalis amazonica is the only cactus whose flowers have a bluish tint. It makes a very interesting and unique hanging plant and it’s a relatively easy plant to grow indoors in your home or office.

Maximum growth: the hanging stems can reach a length of 50 cm (19.68 in).
Foliage: evergreen
Type of growth: hanging.
Flowering season: Spring.
Flower color: magenta/purple with a bluish tint.
Flower size: 10 mm – 30 mm (0.39 in – 1.18 in).
Fragrance: no.
Temperature: room temperature: ~22 Celsius (71.6 Fahrenheit); minimum: 16 Celsius (60.80 Fahrenheit).
Light in the winter: indirect 10% / sunlight 90% (preferred)
Light in the winter: indirect 50% / sunlight 50%
Light in the summer: indirect 70% / sunlight 30% (preferred; needs protection from the midday summer sun)

Growing medium: fir bark (small size) 50% / potting soil for houseplants 30% peat moss 20% (preferred for good aeration of the roots and to avoid a compacted medium).
Watering: depends on the temperature. During the active months spring to autumn the plant needs frequent watering, but allow the soil to dry out between waterings. During winter allow the soil to dry out completely between waterings and then water the plant slightly.
Fertilizing: once monthly in March to May with a general liquid houseplant fertilizer.
